His House | Celebrating Fifty Years

Shannon Haynie

When I was a student at Great Lakes Christian College in the 90s, I attended the His House worship on Sunday nights at MSU. I loved attending His House and would bring other GLCC students along with me. I had gotten to know His House through my second cousin Amy, who was two years older than me, and already in college. She’d pick me up while I was still in high school to take me to His House. Dean Trune was my campus minister, and I loved his teaching and the care that he would have for each of us students. After graduating and going on with my life, His House was always in the back of my mind as a wonderful ministry to work for someday. I worked overseas as a missionary for 12 years, and when I returned to the US for good, I again thought about how great it would be work in campus ministry. I prayed about it, and before I could apply at His House, Emily Veltri, who at the time was working with His House at WMU, contacted me! She said she had heard about me and my return to the US, and wondered if I would enjoy working with international students on campus! Seriously?! What a dream come true! After the interview process, I was hired to work at the His House at WMU with international students in 2017. God is so good - I am so glad it has gone full circle - to be back at His House, this time serving in ministry with people from around the world!
